Eliminating unnecessary distractions Part 1

Before we get started, I know this post will cause some controversy which is fine. The main reason I decided to do this post is in order to have a relationship with God it’s important to eliminate anything in our lives which is not glorifying God and often that could be our relationships with other people.

The direction my blog posts have been going in recently is mainly about eliminating any distractions which may hinder Gods movement in our lives. The reason why I wanted to do this particular post is because I discovered that relationships are a device that the enemy has used to try and distract young teenagers from having a relationship with God. I can already hear a lot of you guys saying “It’s not that deep” it’s alright init.

When I was a kid the only thing people would talk about was ‘relationships, omg that boy/girl likes you, she/he’s buff blah blah blah’. None of my friends ever spoke to me about God. You can say that’s not the enemy if you want, that’s your own opinion. But God wants us to know Him, He wants us to talk to Him. The devil doesn’t so he will use whatever he can to distract us from God.

Human beings are affectionate creatures. We have a desire to be in relationships and that’s because God has a desire and a longing speak to us. Our whole faith is centred on a relationship with God.  Satan knows that if he can replace our relationship with God with a relationship with another individual our spiritual life will suffer, especially if that person isn’t even encouraging you to know God.

If you don’t have a relationship with God and your in a relationship with another human being.. you need to check yourself. Some people including myself get into relationships with other people without even asking God for guidance. Some of us even get into relationships with another person when we don’t even have a relationship with God! Who told you to get into that relationship? Did you pray? Has God told you that this is the man/woman He created just for you? What fruits are you going to bring to that relationship? None. Because you both don’t know God and eventually you’ll destroy each other spiritually. Or maybe one of you knows God or is trying to but the other one doesn’t. Either way your unequally yoked and God tells us not to be unequally yoked, so technically your disobeying God. “Maudlss.. it’s not that deep lol

Adam was on a personal level with God, God would come and sit and talk with Adam and then gave him his purpose which was to look after the earth. God only gave Adam his wife after He told him what his purpose was. Not before. If you and God aren’t on an intimate level but your being in a relationship with another person ask God if this is His plan for your life. As Christians we should constantly check ourselves and make sure we are living our lives the way God wants us to live.

  1. Does your relationship glorify God?
  2. Is God at the centre of your relationship?
  3. Did God instruct you to enter that relationship?

It’s not that deep, I’m too young to think about all of this stuff. It’s not like we’re gonna get married.

I remember when I was a kid and this was a topic that would always come up in Sunday school and I was so ignorant. One of the uncle’s said “You’re not allowed to kiss or hold hands until you’re married” and I remember saying so what are we supposed to do? Play monopoly. That’s dead. It’s about self discipline, Jesus didn’t have a girlfriend, okay so Jesus is God. But still, Jesus was so focused on His God given purpose that He didn’t get distracted.

There is a time and season for everything, in Songs of Solomon it says :

Women of Jerusalem, promise not to awaken or excite my feelings of love until it is ready

Abba father, help us to be holy. Help us to be the strong men and women that you have called us to be. Give us the ability to obey you and follow your instructions. Most high God we know there is a time and season for everything, give us the courage to trust you and wait on your perfect timing. Amen
